If you’re in Seville and looking for a laid-back, authentic tapas experience, Bar Postiguillo Tapas is a must-visit. Nestled in the Arenal district, this unassuming gem has everything you want in a local eatery—rustic charm, mouthwatering dishes, and a great selection of drinks, all served up with a side of Andalusian warmth.
We stumbled upon Postiguillo during our trip to Seville and ended up coming back twice—it’s that good. The menu features an impressive array of tapas, each one a perfect bite of Andalusian flavor. Highlights included alcachofas al pesto (artichokes in pesto), which had just the right balance of rich and herby. We also couldn’t resist the queso de cabra con miel (goat cheese with honey), which was a glorious combination of creamy, tangy, and sweet.
And let’s talk croquettes—croquetas de rabo de toro (oxtail croquettes) and the classic croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes) were both crispy on the outside and decadently creamy inside. But the real showstopper was the flamenquín—a traditional dish from Córdoba, made by wrapping jamón Serrano around pieces of pork loin, dipping them in breadcrumb batter, and deep-frying them to perfection. It’s crispy, savory, and totally addictive. You’ll want more after the first bite, trust me.
Even the olives—aceitunas—were exceptional. They’re a simple dish, but here, they add a fresh herbs and chillies to add a bit of pizzazz.
To wash it all down, we went for some local beers, which were crisp and refreshing, as well as a bottle of Barbadillo, a local white wine made from the Palomino grape – the same variety that gives us sherry. It was crisp, fresh, and went perfectly with everything we ordered – if you like a dry white, we recommend.
Inside, the bar is delightfully rustic, with an eclectic mix of art and photography on the walls, and about a dozen bull heads hanging around the outside of the room, a nod to the bull ring in the same district of the city. It’s quirky but charming, adding to the overall cozy vibe. There’s also the ever present legs of jamon iberico, of course. Plus, just around the corner is a craft workshop where you can pick up some unique local art, which makes it the perfect spot for a post-tapas stroll.
Whether you’re a local or a traveler, Bar Postiguillo Tapas is worth checking out for a true taste of Andalusia. It’s a place where good food and good wine, come together. Good service in the relaxed Spanish style you would expect, and really well priced. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Seville!
