If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable evening in Seville, a visit to Las Setas de Seville (The Seville Mushrooms) at night is an absolute must. This iconic wooden structure, officially known as Metropol Parasol, is not just a modern architectural marvel, but an experience that combines history, stunning views, and a dash of excitement — all while lit up under the Andalusian night sky.

A Bit of History Before the Lights Come On

Las Setas may look like something from a sci-fi movie, but its roots go deep into Seville’s rich history. Designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer, this impressive structure was completed in 2011. It consists of six enormous wooden canopies that, together, form a mushroom-like shape — hence the name. Beneath the parasol, you’ll find an archaeological site, a market, and a plaza that truly embodies the mix of old and new that defines Seville. But it’s the views from the top that steal the show.

The Nighttime View: Seville from Above

We decided to visit Las Setas at night, and it was a perfect choice. The panoramic views of Seville — with the glowing cathedral, the Guadalquivir River, and the winding streets — were simply breathtaking. The best part? The Aurora light show, which is an integral part of the experience. This mesmerizing light display utilizes built-in LEDs within the structure itself to create a stunning visual spectacle that shifts and changes, illuminating the parasol in a way that feels both magical and futuristic. Watching the lights dance above the city while standing on top of the structure made the whole evening feel like a scene from a dream.

The 15-Minute Immersive Video Show

As if the views and the light show weren’t enough, our ticket also included a 15-minute immersive video experience. This short film was a beautiful introduction to the history of Seville, offering a deep dive into the city’s cultural heritage, from the Roman era to modern-day Spain. It was an unexpected but fascinating addition to the experience, making us feel even more connected to the city we were visiting.

Bonus: The Ticket Allows for Two Visits!

One of the best parts of the Las Setas experience is the flexibility of the ticket. When you purchase an entry, you’re given 48 hours to revisit, allowing you to come back during the day to see the city in a whole new light. The daytime views are equally stunning, offering a crisp and clear panorama of Seville, but the magical nighttime ambiance is something you won’t want to miss.

Dinner Before the Lights: Tapas and Drama

Of course, no visit to Seville is complete without some tapas, so we stopped at one of the charming restaurants in the square below Las Setas before heading up. We enjoyed a lovely meal of classic Andalusian tapas — think jamón ibérico, croquetas, and seafood. However, we were interrupted! A large protest started right across from us, adding an unexpected touch of drama to our evening. While it was a bit jarring, the vibrant energy of Seville continued to shine through, making the night feel even more alive and authentic. (Thankfully, the protest was peaceful, but it sure added some extra flair to the evening!)

A Night to Remember

Our visit to Las Setas de Seville was the perfect way to spend an evening in this beautiful city. Between the stunning views, the immersive light show, and the fascinating history on display, it’s an experience that should be on every visitor’s list. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning for another chance to enjoy the city’s magic, a night at Las Setas won’t disappoint. And if you can, be sure to return during the day to see it all over again in a completely new light!

Seville truly knows how to turn a night out into something unforgettable. From tapas to lights, history to drama, every moment felt like a story waiting to be told. It was a night full of surprises, beauty, and memories that we won’t forget anytime soon.
