Our recent stay at the self-contained farm cottage at Woolly Experiences was everything we needed and more for the last night of our tour of Wales and (probably) our last night without a baby!

A Comfortable and Cozy Retreat
From the moment we stepped inside the cottage, we knew we had found the perfect place to unwind. The space is thoughtfully designed with high beamed ceilings and a spacious bedroom that features a super king-size bed – honestly, it was so comfortable that it was hard to leave! The large, airy room had such a welcoming feel, and the natural light pouring through the windows gave it a warm, open atmosphere. It’s not a massive space but it works – it feels “right” for the farm in a way (and it’s not too small!).
The ensuite family bathroom was another highlight. The walk-in shower made it feel luxurious, and we appreciated the high-end touches throughout the cottage – there’s a lovely Belfast sink for instance. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen, ideal for whipping up meals (we had salad, steak and cheeses), and a cozy breakfast table where we enjoyed a slow start to the next morning. Zia, the host, also provides fresh eggs from the farm, bread, butter and milk which is a great touch.
For those staying with a group, there’s a large sofa bed in the living area – perfect for additional guests or kids. Just let Zia know in advance if you’re bringing your dog, and they can be part of the experience too!
Tranquil Environment and Stunning Views
One of the standout features of the cottage is its location. The views from the farm are nothing short of breathtaking – sweeping green fields, rolling hills, and the peaceful sounds of nature all around. Whether you’re sitting on the swing chair outside the porch with a cup of coffee in the morning or watching the sunset over the hills, the serenity here is unmatched. It’s the kind of place that makes you appreciate (or for us, remember) the quiet beauty of the countryside and the simple joys of slowing down.

At night, the farm transforms into a stargazer’s paradise. The clear, dark skies offer incredible views of the stars, making it the perfect spot to end your day. The lack of light pollution means the stars shine bright, and there’s something magical about stepping outside and looking up at the vastness of the night sky.
Connecting with the Animals
Staying on the farm also gives you the ability to walk around and engage with the animals at your own pace. There’s something so relaxing about wandering the grounds, with no schedule or rush, and just taking your time to interact with the animals. Across the (very quiet) road that separates the two bits of the farm, there’s a field with a public bridleway that takes you past the alpaca boys, as well as to meet two of the friendliest sheep in the world!
Zia even provides carrots, so you can feed the animals whenever you like. The donkeys, alpacas, and sheep are always happy for a snack, and it’s such a special experience to be able to connect with them. We spent a lazy evening wandering, feeding, and simply enjoying the presence of the animals. Whether it’s petting the donkeys or watching the alpacas graze in the fields, it’s easy to lose track of time as you immerse yourself in the peaceful farm life.
