Nestled in the heart of the Shropshire countryside, School Farm Holidays offers a delightful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We visited in late December – between Christmas and New Year. Pictures and video below.
For our two-night stay, we opted for the charming Owl Pod, a perfect little sanctuary for two. Though other pods are available, each with its own unique design, the Owl Pod has a double bed and outdoor hot tub and was the ideal base for a peaceful getaway at the end of the year, allowing us to explore the surrounding towns and countryside.
A Warm Welcome to the Owl Pod
From the moment we arrived, School Farm Holidays welcomed us with open arms. The site is set amidst stunning scenery, with panoramic views of rolling fields, making it the perfect escape. The Owl Pod itself was comfortable, warm and packed in all the amenities you’d need whilst offering a bit of rustic charm. Kirsty doesn’t really “do” camping so if you want that vibe, but with hot water and an oven, this isn’t a bad shout!
Despite the cold winter weather, the central heating and insulation ensured the pod stayed wonderfully warm – they’ve done a really nice job on the fit out.
Inside the Owl Pod: Comfort Meets Rustic
The Owl Pod is pretty spacious, with a lovely open-plan design. The star of the show is the king-sized bed, which was really comfortable, and there is a separate bathroom with a good shower and readily available hot water. We loved the cozy feel of the space, with a comfy sofa, a wall-mounted TV for evening relaxation, and a small dining area for two. The pod also has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with an electric cooker, gas hob, and a fridge/freezer—everything you need to whip up a meal or two, which we did on our first night and for breakfast both days.
Outdoor Relaxation: The Hot Tub and Views
What sets the Owl Pod apart is the private hot tub right outside your door. There’s nothing quite like relaxing in the bubbling water while taking in the expansive views of the Shropshire countryside. The tranquility of the area, combined with the soothing warmth of the hot tub, made for a truly serene experience.
On top of that, in summer, the private paved seating area would be perfect for a morning coffee or an evening drink as the sun sets over the landscape. Our pod was also next to a field with goats in it which was lovely, and an adjacent field had a pair of donkeys!
Exploring Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock, and Wenlock Priory
While School Farm Holidays provides everything you need for a relaxing stay, its central location makes it the ideal base for exploring nearby attractions. We ventured out to explore Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock, and Wenlock Priory, which we’ll cover in a separate post. Whether you’re keen on historical landmarks, scenic walks, or simply enjoying the local pubs and shops, this part of Shropshire has something for everyone.
You can also enjoy walks straight from the doorstep, around the farm, and the welcome pack include a range of different walks in the local area.
A Winter Getaway to Remember
Our stay at the Owl Pod was the perfect winter retreat. Surrounded by the beauty of Shropshire, we were able to relax, explore, and enjoy everything School Farm had to offer. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a family retreat, or simply a quiet place to relax, this spot has it all.
We’ll certainly be back to explore even more of this charming corner of the UK.
